Wabi Sabi Painting with Cold Wax Adding Body Texture and Transparency to Your Art edition by Serena Barton Arts Photography eBooks Reviews
I was a little disappointed in this It shows only very abstract painting examples. I was hoping to see how this can be employed in a more impressionistic or realistic work
I rarely review products. My friend has this book and the quality of hers is far superior to this edition. The inside stock is uncoated so the photos are dull and colors are washed out and nearly bleed through the pages. The text is light in areas and hard to read, and in some areas looks bitmapped. Deciding whether to send it back or keep it for the content which is good, but part of a book like this is the inspiration from other artists. This book isn't doing them any favors either. Wonder if the author has authorized this printing.
I think the TV show, "American Pickers" is based on the Wabi-Sabi concept. The skinny guy sees art in every piece of rusty junk, dried out wooden sign they dig out of a dilapidated barn. Learn all about this use of the everyday, flawed, cracked, off color, junkyard, homely items that define beauty.
This book is very informative and encompasses most of the information an artist would need to pursue this method of creating paintings using cold wax. I like that the author shared her process in detail and also her thoughts about her own creativity. An excellent book for any artist.
I am fairly new to painting with cold wax so I wanted a book that had lots of good "how to" information in it. Not only did this book have numerous, detailed and color-illustrated techniques, I was equally drawn to the outstanding selection of art works that were included. It's rare that I find a book that includes so many pieces that I wish I could create. Various talented cold wax artists show their techniques and discuss their inspiration. Nothing is held back. It is a very motivating book and I believe all levels of artists can draw from it--one of the best art books I have purchased in years.
I could not feel more satisfied with this book. I love it and refer to it almost daily. I bought the book before I took a cold wax painting workshop so that I could understand more about the subject. After the workshop I went back to the book and highlighted, underlined, sticky noted, and tabbed it. I love to learn new things and this book is one of the best resources I've ever used to learn something new. I would love to take a workshop with the author someday.
This is a creative alternative to the heat and chemicals nesscessary for encaustic art.
I love the freedom of expression it unleashed and the great steps of the instructions. It open a lot of opportunity to do the art I want to do and fostered my level of hesitation into freedom of design and experimentation. Great results and refreshing.
So far this is the best book I have found on cold wax. It does not provide projects, but does encourage the reader to explore the medium using different techniques. The book also highlights different artists using cold wax. The pictures are inspiring and the techniques are detailed.
