Heather Balog is an outstanding writer who in Letters sets up a complex scene and carries it off believably. It is an arm-length communication between twins, one of whom attempts suicide on her wedding night. We alternate between letters written by the woman under treatment, and the commentary on them in sessions between her sister and her therapist. Although the arc she takes reveals itself early on, the story that fills the pages is genuine and moving. Balog accomplishes the difficult task of letting your mind read on one level while it simultaneously examines the methods and motivations of the principal actors on another. The ending was not as rich and thoughtful as I had hoped, given the quality of the intervening pages. Had it been, I would easily have given this a fifth star.

Letters To My Sister Shrink edition by Heather Balog Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book was good even if it was predictable. If you read a lot, you will figure out the book early. You keep reading to see if there is anything special in the end. You will just have to read it to see.
Also, I was really distracted by all of the typos.
Excellent. Story kept moving. Hard to put down, as it always kept you coming back for more. Thank you Heather Balog
This is a fabulous book, particularly for those of us in the world who have had to come to understand and love and care for siblings with a mental issue of some kind. It is interesting and well written and extraordinary in every way!
Very engaging.

I loved the twists and turns
By the end I was putting things together
Enjoyed the accuracy of the clinical details
Will look for more books by this author
Maybe it is my long time interest in Psychiatry - I even worked as a Psychiatric nurse for about five years, specializing in teaching Relaxation Therapy - and, even though I know that this book is fiction, I can strongly relate to this character. The techniques were spot-on and the fractured client(s) are very believable. I think this book should be required reading for family members whose "loved" ones are in similar circumstances.
This book was hard for me to put down. I was totally absorbed in the story these two sisters told as well as with the " shrink". The author garb s you right from the beginning and never lets go until the end. Anyone who likes to delve into the psyche will enjoy this story.
This is a really good book about what you first think is a sister reading her twin sister's letters in her sisters psychiatrist's office. Her twin sister had tired to commit suicide and had recently been released from the hospital. The only problem is that the sister who tried to commit suicide will only communicate with the psychiatrist via letters. The "good" sister Kathryn acts put out that her crazy sister Shanon has put lies and half truths in her letters. She really doesn't know what to say at first to the psychiatrist. However after a couple of hypnosis sessions, Kathryn begins to open up.
The book was really good. Very realistic, could be a real occurrence. Towards the end of the book, you learn why Shannon tried to commit suicide. You also learn more about the two twin "sisters".
